Silver-plate Punch Ladle Monogram Challenge

Good Monday morning to everyone. You may have noticed the word silver-plate in the title of today’s post.  As you know I don’t deal much with silver-plate for a the main reason that identifying and researching it is it’s own specialist field.  From time-to-time I dip my toes into silver-plated waters, and this week am doing so at the request of Susie aka @Remodel_w_Feia on Twitter.  She wrote me a lovely email asking for a few details on silver-plate.  So this week is all about silver-plate! To warm you up, we’ll start with the silver-plate punch ladle monogram challenge.

Silver-plate Punch Ladle Monogram Challenge

Silver-plate Punch Ladle Monogram

A very pretty double!

Here we have a very swirly double on a large punch ladle. This vintage ladle by Hall, Elton & Co is one of the largest I’ve seen.   It’s about 14 inches long and has a huge bowl in a lovely shape.  Nice for lefties or right-handers.  I’m very attuned to this as I’m a lefty and so many ladles have a pouring spout that you can only use if you are a right-hander.

Also unusually the monogram is written horizontally across the handle rather than vertically. It’s purely a matter of personal preference which way it gets written.

For those of you who are new, welcome and thanks for taking a look around. The monogram challenge is simple to play. Take a look at the photo and leave your best guess in the comments below. If more than one person gets the answer correct, I’ll draw names out of my hat to break the tie. The winner is then announced the next Monday.

As with any good contest, prizes are involved. To read all about that and the official rules click here – Monogram Challenge Rules. If you are looking for information about Monograms on Silver – click Silver Monogram Rules – Google sends people astray every so often.

Last week’s Challenge

vintage silver Coffee Set Monogram Challenge

All 3 pieces have the same monogram, a lovely triple in a style that perfectly complements the exquisite lines of this coffee set.

Last week’s swirly triple, combined with the tricky angle produced lots of guesses and one clear winner.

The answer is SYA and the winner is Elizabeth! Congratulations, contact me and I’ll send out your silver six pence.

Thanks to everyone for playing.  Better luck this week.

PS

In the last couple of years I’ve discovered the joy of serving punch at our holiday party.  So much easier than making individual drinks and if you offer it as the house special most people give it a try.  Do you like to serve punch?
